The thruth about IBS.
As you know I did a IBS post before but I wanted to do more research and tell you how bad this condiditon is. Most people dont think this condition is serious and many think that when they et a bit bloated they have it but I asure you if you have IBS you would certainly know how bad it is.
So if you goolge IBS as a definiton you get- 'A syndrome that is functional bowel disorder characterized by chronic abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating and alteration of bowel habits in the absense of any detectable organic use'.
The reason I wanted to include a google definition is because most doctors will tell you that you have this coniditon and you must change your diet but they dont really explain this condition. Its not as simple as change your diet and you will be fine. This condition as NO CURE. There is many diets you can try and believe me I have tried them all but life can also affect IBS.
Stress is a main factor in this condition and stress can flare it. Everyone deals with stress, some of us better than others. Life is stressfl and you can avoid stress. This will flare you IBS leaving yo in cripplin pain, bloated stomach and a change in bowel movments from chronic diarrhea to chronic constipation.
Then theres the emaressing side of IBS which is the bloating because nobody wants to leave the house with a bloated tummy, your clothes dont fit and you stay in missing events, work, school and meeting friends. It dramatically affects your social life which then in return affects your mental state. IBS has a high major depression rate and anxiety and I know from having this how it affects you mentally. Alcohol also makes you flare up and most people with IBS cant drink. You can eat certain foods, especially spicy foods and acidy foods.
When you are new to this condition going to a party or wedding can be difficult. You might eat the wrong and end up on the loo all night or getting sick all night. Even if you have this years your still learning. My food changes so much and I have tried every diet suggested to me and nothin works, so now I just avoid my triggers. This is what people do after years of IBS you recognise your triggers but then again something I eat today could make me ill tomorrow.
This conditon can be hard on people with relationships as it is embaressing and dont want to end up running for the bathroom or using the bathroom in your other halfs house. Some people have only diarrhea or only consitpation with IBS but if your like me yo can have both and you never know which one will strick when you least expect it.
The worst for me is the crippling spasms and nausea. The pain can be so bad that I find it hard to breath or I try and hold my breath due to the pain. The pain has got so bad that it is worse then dislocating a joint. I deal with this pain every single day and it drives me insane. Im on medication for depression and if I wasnt I would end up trying to take my own life just to stop the pain. I wait months to see a gastroenterologist and I still have no relief. I am on numerous amount of medication and im still in agony.
IBS isnt just a swollen belly it is a horrrible condition and I wouldnt wish it on anyone. I am forever using heat packs and hot water bottles to ease the cramps and I have been really bad lately but I am seeing my gastroenterologist next week and im praying I will get more help. The worst is knowing this condition as no cure and its hard to keep hope for something that will help. I will fill ye in on how my hospital appointment goes.
