Little miss make up
Welcome back to my blog or welcome if you are new.
I am going to explain to you about irritable bowel syndrome. I will refer to IBS throughout this blog post.
This is a condition which affects so many people men and women. It isn't often spoke about because it is very embarrassing and I want to show people that it's ok to be different. It's ok that we have an embarrassing illness. Yes it can be so hard to life with this along with any condition. I have found by accepting myself and my conditions has helped me in day to day life.
So this is a condition that causes chronic abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating and alterations of bowel movements from constipation to diarrhoea.
That first explanation alone clearly shows why this condition whould be embarrassing.
The pain is cruel, it's horrible and crippling. I honestly feel like vomiting the pain gets so bad and it can come on so strong and all of a sudden. So you never know when it will strike.
The bloating is awful I struggle to find lose clothes, ones that fit and pants that close on me and clothes to hide my belly because honestly it looks like I'm pregnant. I get a big round bump and people have asked me how far along am I. The bloating does hurt my skin gets so stretched and I feel likely going to pop. I often get swelling lasting over a week without going down.
Now the bowel movements.
The most embarrassing part. Going from days of constipation to days of diarrhoea. The constipation is awful and I feel so sluggish and the more I eat the more food that gets stuck inside me which can be very dangerous. I used to go two weeks without a bowel movement. Now I have lots of laxatives which I can take or something I find amazing to help is bowels of porridge with warm milk and cranberries. I love opting for something natural and I find this really helps. Constipation is awful and I often tear and bleed a lot when I do get a bowel movement.
Next is the diarrhoea which can be so restricting. I can't leave the house when this happens and it happens a lot. It can be embarrassing if it comes on you when your out or at a friends house. It is so draining and really exhausted me. I do get so sore and raw from going to the bathroom which is very uncomfortable.
This condition can be hard in relationships especially new ones where your afraid of how your bowel will behave. Cancelling plans due to diarrhoea and it's a very hard subject to talk about with a new partner.
I am on medication to help with the bowel spasm which I don't no how I would mange without them. Dietary adjustments are a must. Nobody knows your body like you do so avoid anything that makes your symptoms worse. Spicy food or greasy food I find are killers for me.
Upto 60% of people with this condition have psychological disorders. Depression can occur from this condition and in some cases suicide. So please talk about it get help and you can learn to adapt and live with this condition it is hard but once we accept ourselves others will too.
