Little miss make up
Today I am talking about MCAD.
This is a condition I suffer from and it basically means I'm allergic to myself.
Firsty, MCAD is an immunological condition in which mast cells inappropriately and excessively release chemical mediators, resulting in a range of chronic sysmtpoms.
This condition affects functions in every organ of my body. Especially the skin, gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular and nervous system.
The sympomts of this condition are:
-Dermatological- which includes flushing, easy bruising (I'm always covered in bruises), reddish or pale complexion (if you know me you know my face is like Snow White) and itchiness (this drives me insane, feels like bugs crawling on me sometimes and I'm always bruising myself from scratching so much).
-Cardiovascular- which includes lightheadedness, dizzy spells, presyncope( this is lightheadedness, muscle weakness, blurred vision and feeling faint. I get this a lot and these are also symptoms of my heart condition). Syncope (this is fainting. Which I have done a lot of and is also a symptom again of my heart condition).
-gastrointestinal- diarrhoea (so painful and exhausting and difficult to leave the house when this happens.) cramping (I often wake during the night crying with the pain of the cramps and feeling like vomiting the pain is so intense) intestinal discomfort, nausea( sometimes the nausea gets so bad I can't eat and I have to force myself to drink forstip drinks, this contain 300calories to ensure I don't suffer malnutrition) and vomiting (can occur any time with little warning, I ended up vomiting out on the street in dublin city centre after a meal with my Mam. People stared as they walked passed but I no longer get embarrassed.
-Psychological and neurological- brain fog ( stop the lights , this is a killing, I can't function or speak properly and I forget everything.) short term memory( this is horrible I could often do something or go somewhere like in the car into town which is 15minuye drive and I remember getting in the car and now I'm sitting in town and I have no memory of getting there), difficulty recalling words( sometimes it sounds like baby talk and people can't understand a word I say I honestly sound like some who's been drinking alday), also headaches and migraines( which anyone who suffers from these will know they can have you bed bound the pain is awful).
-Respitory- congestion, coughing (I wake so much choking like I have a dry tickle in the back of my throat sometimes I cough so much I can't get my breath), wheezing.
-eyes/vision- ocular discomfort(my eyes get so sore they feel like there burning and they water like crazy), conjunctivitis ( I get this so bad I look like I've been in a boxing ring).
-Musculoskeletal- osteoporosis and anaphylaxis (this is an accuse allergic reaction to an antigen to which the body as become hypersensitive.
Treatment of MCAD is with antihistamines. I am currently on six 100mg tablets daily. I have noticed a difference. I don't have my swollen face as bad or the conjunctivitis. I do still get sore burning eyes and my skin gets so itchy. I often take an extra antihistamine to help.
Triggers of this condition are; heat, cold or friction. Sunlight, fatigue( I suffer badly with this, I'm always tired and exhausted, no amount of rest will help with this), excersize and fever. Stress also is a big trigger anytime I get stressed it flares up all my conditions. Some foods can trigger it like cheese, spices, shellfish, food preservatives, flavourings and colourings. Bacterial or viral infections can trigger it. Along with alcohol, drugs( aspirin, anti-inflammatories, antibiotics). Any insect bite or sting can have a big affect on my body.
So, that's what MCAD is. I said I would post this tonight as I'm tearing my skin with itch and my eyes are burning.
